What's the difference between powder and stick foundations?
Asked a year ago
Hey folks, I've predominantly used liquid foundations in the past, but I've recently come across both powder and stick foundation options. I'm a bit unsure about how they differ from each other and in what situations one might be preferable over the other. Has anyone had experience with both types? I'm trying to figure out which might be best for my needs. Any insights or comparisons would be really helpful. Thanks in advance!

Stick foundations are full-coverage foundations in stick form that give you either a matte or satin finish, depending on the foundation. With this type of foundation, less is more, or you run the risk of it looking cakey. This is the case for all cream foundations, including stick foundations. This type of foundation photographs beautifully, so it is ideal for special occasions, night outs, and photoshoots.
Powder foundations, on the other hand, are just like their name suggests. However, they feel lightweight on the skin, are buildable, and give you a soft matte finish. Many, including myself, prefer it for daytime use because of its quick and easy application. My tip is to set the powder foundation with a setting spray so it looks more like skin and not powdery.
