How do I properly clean and sanitize my foundation brushes?
Asked a year ago
Hey everyone, I've been realizing that while I use my foundation brushes regularly, I'm not entirely sure I'm cleaning and sanitizing them as thoroughly as I should be. I'm a bit concerned about potential skin issues from using unclean brushes. Does anyone have a recommended method or routine for properly cleaning and sanitizing foundation brushes? I want to ensure I'm taking the best care of my tools and my skin. Thanks for any advice!

I like to deep clean my foundation brushes at least every 10 days. This is how I clean and sanitize them:
- I collect all my makeup brushes and take them to the sink. One by one, I start rinsing the ends of the brushes, and I am mindful not to let the water touch the base of the bristles, as this can make your makeup brushes start shedding.
- Then I apply either a gentle hair shampoo or a makeup brush cleaner and massage the brushes. Lightly squeezing the foundation out.
- I then rinse the shampoo off the brushes until the water turns clear.
- I lay all my brushes down on a towel and allow them to dry for at least 12 hours.
- If you want to take an extra step, you can also spray rubbing alcohol on the brushes after laying them out to dry.
