What is the difference between a pencil and liquid eyeliner?

Asked 7 months ago

Hey everyone, I am wondering about the difference between pencil and liquid eyeliners. Can someone share experiences and knowledge about the differences between these two popular eyeliner types? I'm especially interested in understanding how they feel during application, which is easier to apply, and which one stay in place the longest? thank you!

Hey! I know some makeup artists may disagree with me when I say that these two are completely different. A pencil eyeliner is an eyeliner in the form of a pencil, sometimes referred to as kohl depending on its formulation. A pencil eyeliner is mostly used to line your waterline or tightline. If you wish to create a winged eyeliner with a pencil, this is possible. However, you’ll need to make sure the pencil is sharpened. In my opinion, a pencil is mostly useful for makeup looks that are meant to be intentionally smudged or smoked.

Liquid eyeliner, on the other hand, is exactly what its name suggests. Nowadays, liquid eyeliner comes in several forms, from pots to felt tip pens and brush tips. Liquid eyeliner is best for precision, detailed, or angled eyeliner looks.

Pencil eyeliners are easier to use and great for beginners. Liquid eyeliners are more likely to stay on longer, but unfavorable formulas may crack as you go about your day.
