How to adjust your contouring and highlighting routine for different lighting conditions?
Asked a year ago
Hey everyone! I know that lighting can really change how makeup looks and I'd love to know how you adjust your contouring and highlighting routine based on different lighting conditions. Any tips for achieving consistent results? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

Hey! So, this is how I like to do my contour and highlight for different lighting conditions:
For natural lighting, I try to keep my base as natural as possible. I stick to cream or liquid highlighters and contour products. This is because they look more natural and skin-like with natural lighting.
For artificial lighting that includes flash photography or general photoshoots, you can go slightly heavier on the contour and highlight. However, moderation is still key, as some flash photography can make your contour and highlight look harsh. One of the key adjustments for this lighting condition is making sure your contour and highlight are seamlessly blended. I use a damp beauty sponge to ensure this.
In moodier or darker lighting, such as in nightclubs, you can go darker than usual on the contour and choose a brighter highlighter. If you are taking pictures in this setting, then ensuring the undertone of your contour suits your skin is key; the same is said for the highlighter.
